Belonging is more than having an address. It’s about connecting with neighbors, sharing traditions, and shaping a community where everyone feels welcome. It means building relationships, creating shared experiences, and recognizing that every person has a role in shaping the future.
When these connections grow, neighborhoods become stronger, more resilient, and places where everyone feels seen and valued.
In Southwest Denver, this vision is coming to life through Commún and its Bridging Cultures, Building Belonging initiative. Rooted in a community-led approach, the effort brings together residents of Athmar Park, Mar Lee, Overland, Ruby Hill, and Westwood, spanning cultural, linguistic, and generational divides. Instead of imposing outside solutions, Commún elevates community voices, ensuring that change is driven by those who know their neighborhood best.
Thanks to a recent grant from Belonging Colorado—a statewide effort supported by The Denver Foundation—Commún is set to deepen this impact even further.
Neighbors Supporting Each Other
Belonging thrives when people step up for one another. Through Commún’s mutual aid network, residents share resources, volunteer their time, and offer hands-on support. From delivering groceries to hosting resource-sharing events, neighbors are weaving stronger ties and ensuring no one is left behind.
Upholding Belonging, Equity, and Affordability
As neighborhoods change, uncertainty around gentrification and affordability can weigh heavily on residents and small businesses. Commún responds with workshops and open conversations that tackle these challenges head-on, creating space for dialogue and solutions rooted in integrity.
Investing in the Future
The Belonging Colorado grant is more than funding—it’s a vote of confidence in community power. These resources fuel programs that strengthen local leadership, expand mutual aid, and foster deeper cultural understanding. The focus isn’t just on honoring the past but on shaping a future where every resident has a voice and a stake.
Be Part of the Change
Southwest Denver shows what’s possible when neighbors unite around belonging. You can join in—by volunteering, attending gatherings, or simply reaching out to someone next door.
Together, we can continue to build bridges, strengthen connections, and create neighborhoods where everyone is respected, connected, and thriving.
